Photography

Photographs are the most exciting and important visual form of global communication, forming a significant part of everyday life. It is estimated that 3.7 billion people use the Internet and around 1.2 trillion photos were taken in the last year. The image has become the most widely used international language, and the ability to communicate concise visual statements that engage audiences is at the heart of our courses and teaching.

Case Study

Yelena Overchenko joined the Foundation in 2016 before progressing onto the BA (hons) Photography. She has recently completed her BA and intends to progress onto the MA in Photography.

Initially, I wanted to apply for a photography course. Still, my English level did not allow me to enter the 1st level of photography, but only for the foundation year of art and design. I am happy that I started with the foundation of the year. Foundation year helped me study other subjects (textiles, 3D fabric manipulation, illustration) and improve my skills in project preparation, research, inspiration from different sources, working with sketchbooks, creating a mood board, and so on.

I want to develop the knowledge and skills obtained from the year’s foundation in my master’s program. I want to create my own master’s project based on fashion photography combined with textile creation and photography. I was very interested in applying images to fabrics; I think having a lot of skill in capturing images will be interesting to apply this in creating fabrics and fashion photography in general.

The 3-year photography course helped me develop my skills to a professional level and find a direction in which I would like to develop further my future career, fashion photography and fine arts.
