For the final project I decided to produce a 2D animation. The appeal of this method is being able to produce a sequence with your own drawings and I’m particularly keen on storytelling through my illustrations and colours. I carried this out through the use of a digital drawing and animation software and a drawing tablet.

Monochrome Heart captures the story of mental health, particularly Depression and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, as such health conditions are becoming increasingly common. I opted to avoid a lot of colour in this piece as it’s somewhat abstract so colour had a vital role, particularly in the lack of it. I’ve chosen to portray mental health as black in this instance and relate the conditions to both falling and drowning, a common way to describe them. There’s also an underlying story of abuse which is where I’ve channelled the colours and even capitalized on the use of black from the outer story.
